Features of the loop

° distance :  10 kilometres

• duration : 4h35

° summit : 1782 m

• elevation gain : 721m

We decided to go arounthe Vallon's Lake at the end of the hike which added another 3 kilometers (45 minutes) to the loop. This is optional, but we were feeling good so decided to take in the lake while we were there !

Landscape and terrain

We decide to spend a week-end in Hirmentaz and on the Sunday morning, we undertook this hike under a shinning sun.

The loop is really worth the effort !

This route took us through some little alpine hamlets and the we arrived on great rocky trails in the middle of the pastures.

The paths became narrower and narrower as we were climbing towards the summit.

When you arrive on the peak of the Gay the panoramic view is simply breathtaking.

The hike is quite strenuous and most of the steep climbing is done in the forest ! There are places where it is very steep and you must pay attention as it would be easy to twist your ankle or hurt your knee if you are not careful.

If you still have energy at the end, you can go around the Vallon Lake and rest by its shores.

Impressions

We crossed some farmland and herds but but w made sure we kept  a goodistance from them  (if your dog is a easily distracted we recommend to keep him on the lead fort the respect of the farmer and its animals.)

Although we completed the loop in August, which is the most popular time, we did not encounter any hiker during the four and a half hours.

It was magnificent ! Blue and Luna were free 80% of the track !

We all came back to the apartment very tired but felt really  good about our day of adventure.
